This January, in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr's vision of a "Beloved Community," we encourage all community members to give back through service. This January 16, people all across the nation have made a commitment to take a "day on, not a day off" by joining together to empower individuals, strengthen communities, bridge barriers and create solutions to social problems. MLK Jr. Day of Service is the perfect time for Americans to answer Dr. King’s challenge to do something for others.
UWMC volunteers and Monterey County Preschool Service Corps are joining together to celebrate MLK Jr. Day by hosting a book drive that will benefit 24 preschool classrooms throughout Monterey County. Books can be dropped off in advance at UWMC's office, Nacho Bizness, Seaside City Hall, and Sovino Wine Bar. We will host a special book collection on Monday, January 16th at the Oldemeyer Center from 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. We request new preschool age books as contributions to the book drive!
